NEW TECHNIQUES FOR TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY CONTROL IN X-RAY DIFFRACTOMETRY

A PHILIPS ELECTRONICS GEIGER COUNTER DIFFRACTOMETER HAS BEEN MODIFIED TO PROVIDE CONTROL OF THE TEMPERATURE OF THE SAMPLE AND THE HUMIDITY AND COMPOSITION OF THE ATMOSPHERE SURROUNDING THE SAMPLE. SPECIAL SAMPLE HOLDERS CONTAINING WATER RESERVOIRS HAVE BEEN DEVISED FOR USE IN STUDIES OF SYNTHETIC MIXTURES OF CEMENT COMPONENTS WHILE UNDERGOING HYDRATION. THE TECHNIQUES OF USING THE MODIFIED EQUIPMENT ARE ILLUSTRATED BY TWO EXAMPLES TAKEN FROM STUDIES ON THE CALCIUM ALUMINATE HYDRATES. A VARIETY OF ADDITIONAL APPLICATIONS OF THESE TECHNIQUES ARE INDICATED. /PCA/
