LONG-TIME STUDY OF CEMENT PERFORMANCE IN CONCRETE--CHAPTER 59 CONCRETE EXPOSED TO SULFATE SOILS

THE STUDY WITH 27 DIFFERENT CEMENTS USED IN CONCRETES WITH 3 DIFFERENT CEMENT CONTENTS GAGED TO THE SAME CONSISTENCY SHOWED THAT DIFFERENCES IN RESISTANCE TO SULFATE ATTACK WERE PRINCIPALLY DUE TO THE CEMENT CONTENT OF THE CONCRETE AND THE COMPOSITION OF THE CEMENT AS INDICATED BY THE CALCULATED TRICALCIUM ALUMINATE CONTENT. AIR ENTRAINMENT BROUGHT ABOUT SOME IMPROVEMENT IN SULFATE RESISTANCE. A LIMIT OF 7 PERCENT ON THE TRICALCIUM ALUMINATE PROVIDED A GOOD CLASSIFICATION FOR CEMENTS OF GOOD AND POOR PERFORMANCE. /PCA/
