EFFECT OF CARBON BLACK AND BLACK IRON OXIDE ON AIR CONTENT AND DURABILITY OF CONCRETE

THE PRACTICE OF USING AIR-ENTRAINING CEMENT AND AIR-ENTRAINING ADMIXTURES HAS MADE IT NECESSARY TO RE-EXAMINE MANY OF THE MATERIALS ADDED TO CONCRETE TO DETERMINE THEIR EFFECT ON THIS TYPE OF CONCRETE. THIS PAPER REPORTS TESTS MADE TO DETERMINE THE EFFECT OF CERTAIN COLORING AGENTS ON THE AIR CONTENT AND DURABILITY OF CONCRETE. THE TESTS INDICATE THAT SOME MATERIALS WHEN ADDED TO CONCRETE REDUCE THE CAPACITY OF THE CONCRETE TO ENTRAIN AIR AND THEREBY REDUCE ITS RESISTANCE TO FREEZING AND THAWING. A RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE FOR EVALUATING COLORING AGENTS FOR USE IN AIR-ENTRAINING CONCRETE IS GIVEN. /PCA/
