THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE COMPOSITION OF CEMENT WITH REGARD TO THE TREATMENT OF CELLULAR CONCRETE WITH CARBON DIOXIDE

THE INVESTIGATIONS THAT WERE CARRIED OUT SHOW THAT TREATMENT WITH CARBON DIOXIDE BRINGS ABOUT MAJOR CHANGES IN THE CEMENT, BOTH IN THE HYDRATED AND UNREACTED PART, THEY MANIFEST THEMSELVES IN VERY ARTIFICIAL AGING, DETERMINED BY THE GREATLY ACCELERATED HYDRATION OF THE CEMENT AND THE SUBSEQUENT CARBONATED, IN WHICH PROCESS THE UNSTABLE CALCIUM HYDROCOMPOUNDS ARE CONVERTED INTO MUCH MORE STABLE CARBONATES WHICH ARE BETTER RESISTANT TO AGGRESSION AND HIGHER TEMPERATURES. UNDER THE CONDITIONS IN WHICH CARBON DIOXIDE TREATMENT IS APPLIED THE CALCITE MODIFICATION OF CALCIUM CARBONATE IS FORMED, WHICH AT FIRST IS OF FAIRLY LOW STABILITY, FINELY CRYSTALLINE AND WITH A LOWER DECOMPOSITION TEMPERATURE, BUT IN COURSE OF TIME BECOMES MORE STABLE AND WHICH THEN WILL DECOMPOSE ONLY AT A HIGHER TEMPERATURE. FROM THE PRACTICAL POINT OF VIEW IT CAN BE SAID THAT A CEMENT WITH AN INCREASED CONTENT OF ALITE, ALUMINATE AND GYSUM IS MOST SUITABLE FOR THE MANUFACTURE OF CARBONATED CELLULAR CONCRETE. IN THIS WAY A HIGHER STRENGTH BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER CARBON DIOXIDE TREATMENT IS ATTAINED. THE INCREASED ADDITION OF GYPSUM PRESENTS NO HAZARD IN THIS CONNECTION. THE STRENGTHS ACHIEVED, WHICH CAN BE FURTHER INCREASED WITH APPROPRIATE PROPORTIONS OF CEMENT AND POSSIBLE ADDITIONS OF LIME AND FLY ASH, ENABLE THE CARBONATED FOAMED CONCRETES WITH INCREASED BULK DENSITY TO BE SUCESSFULLY EMPLOYED FOR VARIOUS CONSTRUCTIONAL PURPOSES. THE HIGH VOLUME STABILITY OF CARBONATED FOAMED CONCRETE AT TEMPERATURES UP TO APPROXIMATELY 700 DEGREES C OPENS UP FURTHER FIELDS OF APPLICATION FOR THIS MATERIAL AS A HEAT INSULATOR OF LOW BULK DENSITY. /AUTHOR/
