THE TECHNIQUE OF MECHANICAL BEDDING AND ITS APPLICATION IN THE CEMENT INDUSTRY

THE MOST FREQUENTLY EMPLOYED METHODS FOR BUILDING UP AND RECLAIMING A MIXING BED FOR RAW MATERIAL USED IN CEMENT MANUFACTURE ARE DESCRIBED. THE BEST HOMOGENIZATION OF THE RAW MATERIAL IS OBTAINED WHEN THE SO-CALLED LONGITUDINAL TIPPING PROCEDURE IS EMPLOYED, IN WHICH THE MATERIAL IS DEPOSITED IN THE THINNEST POSSIBLE LAYERS CONTAINING A CONSTANT QUANTITY OF MATERIAL PER UNIT LENGTH, WHILE IT IS SUBSEQUENTLY RECLAIMED END-ON BY BEING REMOVED IN THE SMALLEST POSSIBLE SLICES. IF A PERIOD OF SEVERAL DAYS IS ALLOWED FOR BUILDING UP THE MIXING BED, THE CORRECT SPECIFIED MIXTURE WILL BE ATTAINABLE WITH CERTAINTY. WHEN RAW MATERIAL DEPOSITS AFFECTED BY PARTICULARLY SEVERE GEOLOGICAL FAULTS AND IRREGULARITIES HAVE TO BE DEALT WITH, CORRECTION OF THE RAW MEAT IS POSSIBLE WITH THE AID OF HOMOGENISING, STORAGE AND BLENDING SILOS FOR THE MEAL. GOOD RESULTS HAVE ALREADY BEEN OBTAINED WITH MECHANICAL BEDDING IN THE CEMENT INDUSTRY. THE FUNDAMENTAL PROCESS ENGINEERING FEATURES ARE EXPLAINED. THEY CAN ALSO BE APPLIED TO ANNULAR STOCKPILES. PROPER INTEGRATION OF MECHANICAL BEDDING AS A METHOD OF MATERIAL BLENDING INTO THE PRODUCTION PROCEDURE IS ULTIMATELY DEPENDENT ON THE PARTICULAR FEATURES OF EACH CEMENT WORKS. /AUTHOR/
