THE ACTION OF FLUORITE ON THE DECARBONATION OF MAGNESITE, CALCITE, AND DOLOMITE
THE INFLUENCE OF 0 TO 80% FLUORITE ON THE DECARBONATION OF THE CARBONATES IN POWDERED MIXTURES OF CALCITE, MAGNESITE AND DOLOMITE WAS INVESTIGATED BY THERMOGRAVIMETRIC, THERMAL ANALYTIC AND X-RAY METHODS. WHEREAS THE DECARBONATION OF MAGNESITE WAS NOT ALTERED BY FLUORITE,IN MIXTURES OF CALCITE AND FLUORITE A EUTECTIC LIQUID PHASE WAS FORMED AT 878 DEGREES C WHICH HAD LITTLE EFFECT ON THE THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF CALCIUM CARBONATE. FLUORITE LOWERED THE FIRST STAGE OF THE DECARBONATION OF DOLOMITE BY ABOUT 100 DEGREES C. IN SEMI-BURNED DOLOMITE, WITH FLUORITE PRESENT, A LIQUID PHASE THERE WAS FOUND TO OCCUR AT 857 DEGREES C. /AUTHOR/
