NEW DATA ON THE ACTION OF CALCIUM CHLORIDE ON CONCRETE AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES /IN FRENCH/
ON 6 FRENCH CEMENTS OF THE PRESENT PRODUCTION, THE LABORATORY OF THE "CONSERVATOIRE DES ARTS ET METIERS" IN PARIS, HAS STUDIED THE EFFECT OF CALCIUM CHLORIDE, USED AT THE RATE OF 2% BY WEIGHT OF THE CEMENT, UPON THE SETTING OF NORMAL PASTES AND UPON THE STRENGTH AND SHRINKAGE OF CONCRETE, THESE TESTS BEING MADE AT NORMAL (20 C) AND LOW (+5 TO - 10 C) TEMPERATURES. CALCIUM CHLORIDE SHORTENS THE SETTING TIME TO 40% AT NORMAL TEMPERATURE AND TO 30% AT LOW TEMPERATURE, THIS INDEPENDENTLY OF THE NATURE OF THE CEMENT. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE COMPOSITION OF THE CEMENT HAS NO GREAT INFLUENCE ON THE ACCELERATION OF HARDENING AT NORMAL TEMPERATURE WHEREAS AN INCREASING AMOUNT OF SLAG IN THE CEMENT INCREASES THE GAIN IN MATURITY OBTAINED OWING TO CALCIUM CHLORIDE. THE USE OF THIS MIXTURE AT THE RATE OF 2% GIVES THE SAME EFFECT ON STRENGTH AS A 20 C RAISE OF THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE. FINALLY, SHRINKAGE DEPENDS ON THE SIZE AND AGE OF TEST-PIECES AS WELL AS ON THEIR CALCIUM CHLORIDE CONTENT. THIS PRODUCT HOWEVER HARDLY MODIFIES THE SHRINKAGE MEASURED AT EQUAL STRENGTH (THUS AT DIFFERENT AGES OF THE TEST-PIECES). /CRIC/FESR/LCPC/RRL/A/
