MORPHOLOGY OF CALCIUM HYDROXIDE IN CEMENT PASTE

LITERATURE ON OCCURRENCE AND MORPHOLOGY OF CRYSTALLINE CALCIUM HYDROXIDE IN CEMENT PASTE IS SURVEYED. NATURAL CALCIUM HYDROXIDE /PORTLANDITE/ AND RELATED NATURAL MINERAL DEPOSITS ARE CITED. CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS NECESSARY FOR FORMATION OF CALCIUM HYDROXIDE IN SUCH FINE PORED SYSTEMS AS CEMENT PASTE AND CONCRETE ARE POINTED OUT. THE PRESENCE OF CRYSTALLINE CALCIUM HYDROXIDE IN AIR BUBBLES IS EMPHASIZED, WITH MENTION OF THE EFFECT OF EXTERNAL NATURAL CONDITIONS ON CRYSTALLIZATION. EXPLANATIONS AND MICROPHOTOGRAPHS ABOUT RECENT RESEARCH ARE AIMED AT PROMOTING FUTURE INVESTIGATIONS.
