THE ORIGIN OF STRENGTH OF CONCRETE
RESEARCH INTO THE ORIGIN AND NATURE OF CONCRETE STRENGTH WAS REVIEWED. FORCES AND SPACING OF CHEMICAL BONDS AND THEIR RELATION TO CONCRETE STRENGTH WERE CONSIDERED. FACTORS DISCUSSED IN REGARD TO CONCRETE STRENGTH INCLUDED' GEL STRENGTH, GEL CONCENTRATION, DEGREE OF SATURATION, PASTE- AGGREGATE BOND, AND AGGREGATE STRENGTH, SIZE AND GRADATION. A NEARLY COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING OF THE CONTRIBUTION OF PASTE STRUCTURE TO CONCRETE STRENGTH HAS BEEN ACHIEVED. FURTHER STUDY ON PASTE-AGGREGATE BOND, CRACK PROPAGATION AFTER THE FIRST LOCAL FAILURE, AND PASTE STRUCTURE ALTERATION WAS RECOMMENDED.
