ASPHALT STABILITY TEST SECTION

A TEST SECTION CONTAINING A WIDE VARIETY OF PAVEMENTS WAS CONSTRUCTED AND SUBJECTED TO TRAFFIC WITH SIMULATED AIRPLANE WHEEL LOADS. SPECIMENS OF THE PAVEMENTS WERE OBTAINED AND TESTED, AND OBSERVATIONS OF THE BEHAVIOR OF THE PAVEMENTS WERE MADE AT REGULAR INTERVALS. THIS PAPER DESCRIBES BRIEFLY THE TEST SECTION, THE APPLICATION OF TRAFFIC, AND THE ANALYSIS OF THE DATA TO DETERMINE DESIGN CRITERIA. THE ESSENTIAL OBJECTIVES WERE TO OBTAIN TEST DATA NECESSARY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF DESIGN CRITERIA FOR MIXTURE AND THICKNESS REQUIREMENTS FOR PAVEMENTS. /AUTHOR/
