EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON PC AND CRC PAVEMENTS MADE WITH EXPANSIVE CEMENT CONCRETE

TWO PRESTRESSED CONCRETE AND TWO CONTINUOUSLY REINFORCED CONCRETE PAVEMENTS WERE CAST EXPERIMENTALLY AT NIIGATA PREFECTURE WITH AND WITHOUT THE EXPANSIVE CEMENT COMPONENT (CSA BY DENKA) IN ORDER TO EXAMINE THE EFFECTS OF THE USE OF EXPANSIVE CEMENT ON PAVEMENTS. IN PC PAVEMENTS MOST OF THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN NORMAL AND EXPANSIVE CONCRETE PAVEMENTS DEPEND ON LENGTH CHANGES BEFORE FINAL PRESTRESSING. IT IS SHOWN THAT USE OF EXPANSIVE CEMENT CONCRETE IN CRC PAVEMENTS MAY GENERATE STRESSES TO SOME DEGREE AND THESE ARE EFFECTIVE N COUNTERACTING STRESS DUE TO TEMPERATURE DROPS AND DRYING SHRINKAGE AT THE CENTER ZONE OF LONG SPAN PAVEMENTS.
