EVOLUTION OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF A BITUMINOUS MIX DURING SEVEN YEARS OF SERVICE

THE EVOLUTION OF A BITUMINOUS MIX DURING THE PRINCIPAL OPERATIONS OF PRODUCTION AND SPREADING AND UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ATMOSPHERIC AGENTS, IS SEEN IN CHANGES IN ITS CHARACTERISTICS AND IN ITS BITUMINOUS ASPHALT AND AGGREGATE CONSTITUENTS. A JOINT STUDY WAS UNDERTAKEN BY LABORATOIRE REGIONAL DES PONTS ET CHAUSSEES IN MARSEILLES AND THE SOCIETE SHELL IN NANTERRE WITH A VIEW TO DETERMINING THIS EVOLUTION, WHICH IS MAINLY CHARACTERIZED BY VARIATIONS IN COMPACTNESS, MODULUS OF RIGIDITY OF THE MIX, GRAIN SIZE OF THE MINERAL PART, AND VISCOSITY AND PENETRATION OF THE BINDER. THE TESTS WERE MADE ON SAMPLES TAKEN OVER A PEROID OF SEVEN YEARS. /AUTHOR/
