RHEOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE AT TEMPERATURES BELOW FREEZING POINT /IN RUSSIAN/

RESULTS OF THE EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF STRESS RELAXATION IN ASPHALTIC CONCRETE AT TEMPERATURES BETWEEN + 20 AND - 40 DEGREES C ARE PRESENTED. THE TEST METHOD IS DESCRIBED. THE INVESTIGATION WAS CARRIED OUT WITH A TEST MACHINE DEVELOPED IN THE USSR, THE MRS-250, WHICH CONSISTS OF A MECHANICAL PRESS, FOR THE LOADING OF SAMPLES AT A GIVEN DEFORMATION RATE. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TEST AND STRESS RELAXATION WERE RECORDED BY MEANS OF "LOAD-TIME" COORDINATES. STRESS RELAXATION WAS DETERMINED FOR ASPHALTIC CONCRETE CONTAINING BITUMEN BN-0 AND BN-2. IT WAS SHOWN DURING TESTS ON ASPHALTIC CONCRETE AT TEMPERATURES BETWEEN - 20 AND - 30 DEGREES C THAT THE FOLLOWING QUALITATIVE MODIFICATIONS OCCUR: (1) RELAXATION TAKES PLACE VERY SLOWLY, (2) THE LINEAR THERMAL EXPANSION COEFFICIENT DECREASES, (3) FOR ASPHALTIC CONCRETE WITH BITUMEN BN-0 AND BN-2, THE LOAD- DEFORMATION RELATION IS PRACTICALLY LINEAR, AND (4) ASPHALTIC CONCRETE IS SUBJECT TO BRITTLE FRACTURE. /LCPC/RRL/
