THE VOIDS CONTENT OF THE AGGREGATE-ITS INFLUENCE ON BINDER REQUIREMENT AND THE PROPERTIES OF BITUMINOUS MIXUTRES (IN GERMAN)
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE COMPACTNESS OR VOIDS CONTENT OF COMPACTED AGGGREGATE FOR BITUMINOUS MIXTURES IS DISCUSSED. THOSE INTENDED FOR USE IN ROADS CARRYING LITTLE TRAFFIC NEED TO BE MORE DENSELY STRUCTURED THAN THOSE FOR MAIN TRAFFIC ROADS WHERE THE ACTION OF TRAFFIC CAUSES EXTRA COMPACTION OF THE MIXTURE, MAKING A CERTAIN MINIMUM VOIDS CONTENT ESSENTIAL. THE EFFECT OF THE VARYING VOIDS CONTENT ON BINDER REQUIREMENT IS DESCRIBED AND VALUES ESTABLISHED BY THE ASPHALT INSTITUTE ARE OUTLINED. /FG/RRL/
