IMPROVEMENT OF THE ADHESIVENESS OF BITUMEN DURING THE SURFACE TREATMENT OF SOIL-CEMENT /IN RUSSIAN/

RESULTS ARE GIVEN OF TESTS CARRIED OUT AT SOYUZDORNII FOR DETERMINING THE ADHESION BETWEEN BITUMENS AND THE SURFACE OF SOIL CEMENT SAMPLES. A METHOD RECOMMENDED FOR USE IN FIELD LABORATORIES FOR SELECTING THE BEST ORGANIC PRODUCT FOR PRE-TREATMENT OF A SOIL CEMENT SURFACE (OR A SECONDARY ROAD FOR EXAMPLE) CONSISTS IN MAKING A CYLINDRICAL SOIL-CEMENT SPECIMEN, COVERING IT WITH A SMALL AMOUNT OF BITUMEN AND THEN OF THE PRODUCT TO BE TESTED, AND IMMERSING IT FOR 3 MINUTES IN BOILING WATER. ADHESION BETWEEN BITUMEN AND SOIL-CEMENT SURFACE IS IMPROVED BY PRE-TREATMENT WITH AN ORGANIC LIQUID PRODUCT SUCH AS SOME TYPES OF RESIN OR BITUMEN EMULSION. EXAMPLES ARE GIVEN OF RESULTS OBTAINED ON TWO SITES NEAR LENINGRAD. /LCPC/RRL/
