EXPERIMENT ON COMPACTION OF GAP-GRADED GRANULAR BITUMINOUS MIXTURES (DETERMINATION OF A COMPACTION METHOD FOR A GIVEN MIXING PLANT) /IN FRENCH/

THE EXPERIMENT CONSISTED IN LAYING GRANULAR BITUMINOUS MATERIALS ON A 4KM SECTION OF NEW ROAD ON THE RN7. VARIOUS GAP-GRADED ASPHALTIC CONCRETES WERE USED WHICH DIFFERED FROM EACH OTHER IN THE MINERALOGICAL NATURE OF THEIR RESPECTIVE AGGREGATES. THE FIRST AIM OF THIS EXPERIEMNT IS TO OBTAIN SATISFACTORY LAYING OF GRANULAR BITUMINOUS MIXTURES AND TO DEFINE AN OPTIMUM COMPACTION METHOD AS A FUNCTION OF THE MIXING PLANT AVALABLE ON THE ONE HAND, AND OF THE CLIMATIC CONDITIONS AT THE SITE (WIND EFFECT) ON THE OTHER. THE SECOND AIM IS TO STUDY THE BEHAVIOR OF THIS TYPE OF MATERIAL UNDER TRAFFIC CONDITIONS ON THE RN7 DURING THE NEXT FEW YEARS. THESE BITUMINOUS MIXTURES COULD OFFER IMPROVED ROUGHNESS AND RESISTANCE TO TRACKING TRANSVERSE PROFILES (TRACKING), SKIDDING RESISTANCE AND MICROPROFILES (POLISHING) WILL BE STUDIED.
