DETERMINATION OF ASPHALT CONTENTS IN A PAVING MIXTURE BY THERMAL NEUTRONS

THE PURPOSE OF THIS RESEARCH WAS TO DETERMINE THE FEASIBILITY OF MEASURING THE ASPHALT CONTENT OF BUTUMINOUS PAVING BY THE NEUTRON BOMBARDMENT-COUNTING TECHNIQUE. THE CORRELATION OF NEUTRON COUNT AND ASPHALT PERCENTAGES DEPENDS PRIMARILY ON THE CHEMICAL CONTENT OF THE ASPHALT. BECAUSE THE CHEMISTRY OF ASPHALT IS THAT OF A VARIABLE MIXTURE, IT CAN BE EXPECTED THAT DATA COLLECTED WILL FLUCTUATE TO SOME DEGREE WITH CHANGES IN THE ASPHALTS TESTED /AUTHOR/
