A NEW STEEL-PLATE CONSTRUCTION SPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR AUTOMATIC WELDING

A STRUCTURAL SYSTEM IS DESCRIBED WHICH ENSURES MINIMUM WEIGHT AND PRODUCTION COSTS COMBINED WITH MAXIMUM STRUCTURAL STRENGTH FOR LOAD-CARRYING PLATE STRUCTURES: LONGITUDINAL RIBS OF SAW-TOOTH OR TRAPEZOIDAL PROFILE TIGHTLY ABUT ALONG BOTH EDGES AND ARE WELDED DIRECTLY TO THE DECK PLATING BY A SINGLE WELD RUN BETWEEN THEM. THE LONGITUDINALLY STIFFENED DECK PLATING, COMPLETE WITH LONGITUDINAL RIBS, IS LAID OVER THE TRANSVERSE BEAMS AND CONNECTED WITH THEM BY MEANS OF SPECIAL CROSS-PACKINGS. THE LONGITUDINAL RIBS CAN THEN BE CONNECTED TO THE DECK PLATING AND THE TRANSVERSE MEMBERS BY AUTOMATIC WELDING. A SIMPLE METHOD OF CALCULATING LOAD DISTRIBUTION BETWEEN LONGITUDINAL AND TRANSVERSE DISTRIBUTION IS DESCRIBED. /RRL/
