PULL-OUT TESTS ON ANCHOR BOLTS EMBEDDED IN CONCRETE

DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF FOUR TESTS ON ANCHOR BOLTS EMBEDDED IN CONCRETE. A CORRUGATED SHEET STEEL CYLINDER OR A SHEET STEEL CONE WAS ENCASED IN THE CONCRETE, AND THE ANCHOR BOLT WAS EMBEDDED IN CONCRETE INSIDE IT. RESULTS OF TESTS SHOWED THAT THE ANCHOR BOLT CAN WITHSTAND A CONSIDERABLE FORCE IF THE CYLINDER OR CONE IS SURROUNDED BY SPIRAL REINFORCEMENT. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE EFFECTIVE CROSS- SECTION AREA OF THE SPIRAL REINFORCEMENT SHOULD BE DESIGNED FOR A FORCE AMOUNTING TO ABOUT 40 PERCENT OF THE TENSILE FORCE ACTING ON THE ANCHOR BOLT. HIGH FRICTION BETWEEN THE SHEET STEEL CONE OR CYLINDER AND THE CONCRETE IS DESIRABLE.
