POLYETHYLENE FILM AS CONCRETE CURING MATERIAL IN A TROPICAL CLIMATE

CONCRETE SPECIMENS WERE CAST AT AND EXPOSED TO THREE DIFFERENT CLIMATIC REGIONS IN ETHIOPIA. THE SPECIMENS WERE CURED FOR DIFFERENT LENGTHS OF TIME, EITHER COVERED WITH TRANSPARENT POLYETHYLENE FILM OR BY INTERMITTENT WATERING. CURING CONCRETE BY COVERING WITH TRANSPARENT POLYETHYLENE FILM IS SUPERIOR TO EITHER INTERMITTENT WATER CURING, OR COVERING WITH CEMENT BAG PAPER PLUS INTERMITTENT WATERING. PROLONGED EXPOSURE (SEVEN DAYS IN THE PRESENT STUDY) OF CONCRETE COVERED WITH TRANSPARENT POLYETHYLENE FILM TO SOLAR RADIATION INCREASES EARLY AGE COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH WITHOUT AN ADVERSE INFLUENCE ON HIGHER AGE STRENGTH. /AUTHOR/
