POLYMERS IN CONCRETE
SYMPOSIUM PAPERS WERE PRESENTED ORALLY AT TWO SEPARATE SESSIONS, WITH SIX PAPERS PRESENTED AT EACH SESSION. THE FIRST SESSION WAS HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE 1972 FALL MEETING OF ACI IN HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA, AND THE SECOND SESSION WAS HELT AT THE 1973 ANNUAL ACI MEETING IN ATLANTIC CITY, NEW JERSEY. IN ADDITION TO PAPERS WHICH WERE PRESENTED ORALLY, SEVERAL PAPERS, WHICH WERE PREPARED FOR PUBLICATION ONLY, ALSO APPEAR IN THIS VOLUME. SUBJECT MATTER OF THE SYMPOSIUM INCLUDES: (1) PROCESS TECHNOLOGY FOR PREPARATION OF CONCRETE WHICH CONTAINS POLYMERS: (2) MATERIAL PROPERTIES; (3) FUNDAMENTAL STUDIES; AND (4) WORK PERFORMED ON DEVELOPMENT OF APPLICATIONS. CONCRETE WHICH CONTAINS POLYMERS INCLUDES COMPOSITES PREPARED BY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING THREE METHODS: (1) MONOMER IMPREGRATION OF NORMAL HARDENED CONCRETE FOLLOWED BY IN-SITY POLYMERIZATION (PIC); (2) MIXING A MONOMER OR RESIN WITH AN AGGREGATE, AND POLYMERIZING OR CURING THE MATERIAL AFTERITS PLACEMENT(PC); (3) ADDITION OF A POLYMER OR ITS PRECURSOR DURING MIXING OF ORDINARY FRESH CONCRETE WITH POLYMERIZATION OR CURING INITIATED AFTER PLACEMENT OF THE MATERIAL (PCC). THE MAJORIT OF THE PAPERS IN THS VOLUME DEAL WITH PIC. OF THE REMAINING PAPERS, TWO WERE PREPARED ON THE SUBJECT OF PC AND THREE OF PCC. TITLES AND AUTHORS OF THE PAPERS ARE AS FOLLOWS: CONCRETE POLYMER MATERIALS AND ITS WORLDWIDE DEVELOPMENT, M. STEINBERG; PROCESS TECHNIQUES FOR PRODUCING POLYMER - IMPREGNATED CONCRETE, L. E. KUKACKA AND A. J. ROMANO; DEVELOPMENT OF POLYMER - IMPREGNATED CONCRETE AS A CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL FOR ENGINEERING PROJECGS, G. W. DEPUY AND J. T.
