LEAN CONCRETE FOUNDATIONS FOR RAND CONSTRUCTION IN URBAN AREAS /IN FRENCH/
DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF A CARRIAGEWAY STRENGTHENING PROJECT FOR THE TOWN OF SAVERNE. THE PROJECT CONSISTED OF THE REMOVAL OF THE EXISTING PAVEMENT, WHICH WAS COMPLETELY DAMAGED OVER A DEPTH OF 50 CM, THE APPLICATION OF A FIRST GRAVEL-SLAG FOUNDATION LAYER 25 CM THICK, A 20 CM THICK ROAD BASE OF THE SAME MATERIAL, AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF A 5 CM ASPHALTIC CONCRETE WEARING COURSE. BECAUSE OF THE PRESENCE OF THE CLAYEY SUBGRADE AND SERVICE MAINS, IT WAS DECIDED TO REPLACE THE GRAVEL-SLAG SUBBASE BY A LEAN CONCRETE LAYER OF THE SAME THICKNESS. TWO FORMULAE WERE USED: ONE FOR CONVENTIONAL LEAN CONCRETE, THE OTHER FOR HIGH-QUALITY LEAN CONCRETE. FORTY-EIGHT HOURS AFTER THE APPLICATION OF THE CONCRETE, THE GRAVEL-SLAG ROAD BASE WAS LAID WITHOUT ANY TROUBLE. /TRRL/
