RESULTS OF SUITABILITY ON FILLERS FOR BITUMINOUS ROADS

THE TESTING OF A REPRESENTATIVE SELECTION OF FILLERS CURRENTLY USED IN EAST GERMANY OR EXPECTED TO BE USED IN THE NEAR FUTURE HAS SHOWN THE FOLLOWING: (1) LIMESTONE FLOUR IS THE ONLY FILLER WHICH CAN HAVE UNRESTRICTED USE IN ALL BITUMINOUS MIXTURES USED FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION; (2) SLATE DUST, FILLERS MADE OF CRUSHED SAND, ROCK DUST AND DUST FROM MIXING PLANTS HAVE PROPERTIES WHICH SHOULD RESTRICT THEIR USE TO MIXTURES WITH A LOW-FILLER CONTENT AND MIXTURES FOR ROADBASES; (3) BROWN COAL FILLER-ASH IS NOT SUITABLE AS A FILLER FOR BITUMINOUS ROAD MIXTURES; (4) ONLY BINDER-AGGREGATE MIXTURES HAVING LIMESTONE FLOW AS A FILLER HAVE OPTIMUM QUALITIES. /TRRL/
