LIGHT-WEIGHT AGGREGATES IN ASPHALTIC CONCRETE FOR IMPROVEMENT OF DURABILITY AND SKIDDING RESISTANCE OF WEARING COURSES
FOR 15 YEARS EXPERIMENTS HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT WITH ASPHALTIC CONCRETE WEARING COURSES IN WHICH PART OF THE COARSE AGGREGATES (DUTCH CHIPPINGS) HAS BEEN REPLACED BY SLAG; THE SAND FRACTION IS COMPOSED OF NATURAL SAND, CRUSHED SAND, AND A SPECIAL CLINKER, AND THE BITUMEN CONTENT IS SOMEWHAT HIGHER THAN THAT OF STANDARD ASPHALTIC CONCRETE. RESULTS SHOW THAT THIS MIXTURE HAS GOOD DURABILITY AND SKIDDING RESISTANCE. ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE NEED FOR CAREFUL PROPORTIONING OF THE INGREDIENTS IF GOOD WORKABILITY OF THE MIXTURE IS TO BE OBTAINED. /TRRL/
