VERTICAL SHEAR STRENGTH OF COMPACT COMPOSITE BEAMS

THE ULTIMATE STRENGTH IN COMBINED BENDING AND SHEAR OF NEGATIVE MOMENT REGIONS OF CONTINUOUS COMPOSITE STEEL-CONCRETE BEAMS FOR BUILDING STRUCTURES AND BRIDGE DECKS IS STUDIED BY THE METHODS OF LIMIT ANALYSIS. A TENTATIVE DESIGN METHOD IS COMPARED WITH THE RESULTS OF TESTS, AND IS SHOWN TO BE APPLICABLE TO BEAMS WITH COMPACT MILD STEEL I SECTIONS AND HEAVY LONGITUDINAL REINFORCEMENT IN THE CONCRETE SLAB.
