FACTORS AFFECTING THE BUCKLING STABILITY OF PARTIALLY PLASTIC BEAMS
A STUDY IS MADE OF THE VARIOUS FACTORS WHICH GOVERN THE INELASTIC LATERAL BUCKLING STRENGTH OF BEAMS. BOTH STRESS FREE SECTIONS AND MEMBERS CONTAINING RESIDUAL STRESSES ARE CONSIDERED. IN EACH CASE SIMPLE METHODS OF PREDICTING LATERAL BUCKLING STRENGTH IN THE INELASTIC RANGE ARE ADVANCED. THESE METHODS COMPARE FAVOURABLY WITH THE MORE 'EXACT' THEORY AND WITH AVAILABLE TEST RESULTS. /AUTHOR/
