POST-BUCKLING BEHAVIOR OF DETERMINATE BEAMS
A RIGOROUS AND UNCOMPLICATED THEORY FOR THE LARGE ELASTIC DEFORMATIONS OF BEAMS IS PRESENTED AND THE THEORY IS VERIFIED EXPERIMENTALLY BY INVESTIGATING THE POST-BUCKLING BEHAVIOR OF 1-SECTION AND NARROW RECTANGULAR SECTION BEAMS. THE POSTBUCKLING STRENGTH OF DETERMINATE BEAMS IS FOUND TO BE SMALL UNTIL THE DEFORMATIONS BECOME GROSS. THE RESULTS GIVE A MORE COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING OF BUCKLING AND POSTBUCKLING IN DETERMINATE BEAMS AND THE THEORY PROVIDES A BASIS FOR THE INVESTIGATION OF THE POST-BUCKLING BEHAVIOR OF REDUNDANT BEAMS. /ASCE/ME/
