CHANGES IN STRUCTURE AND COMPOSITION OF ASPHALTS AND BITUMENS

THE STUDY REPORTED INVOLVES THE APPLICATION OF AN ELECTROSTATIC RESONANCE METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE MODULUS OF ELASTICITY /YOUNGS/ AND THE COEFFICIENT OF INTERNAL BREAKDOWN /FREQUENCY OF THE ORDER OF 10 000 HZ/ AT WIDE TEMPERATURE RANGES. NATURAL ASPHALT, AND DISTILLED AND OXIDIZED PETROLEUM BITUMENS WERE STUDIED. RESULTS SHOW A PARALLEL VARIATION BETWEEN THE FRAASS BREAKING POINT AND THE TRANSITION POINT, WHICH LAST WAS CONSTANTLY 15-20 C BELOW THE FIRST. /RRL/
