Effect of Slag Powder on Gas Permeability and Compressive Strength of High Performance Concrete

Based on the mercury intrusion porosimetry, a study is made ot the compressive strength, gas permeability and pore structure of high performance concrete £¨HPC£© containing slag powder with water-binder ratios £¨w/b£© ranging from 0.25 to 0.35 and replacement of slag powder varying from 0 % to 60 % in mass percentage. An analysis is made of the relationships between compressive strength and gas permeability of HPC. The results show that prolonging curing ages can have a marked effect on improving compressive strength. Effects of slag powder on compressive strength differ for each w/b. And, there exists the best replacement of slag powder for the optimization of gas permeability. Prolonging curing ages can also have significant effects on optimizing gas permeability. Influence of slag powder on porosity of HPC at 90 d isn£§t so great, while it can refine pore size. The linearity correlation between compressive strength and gas permeability is not so close, which is only 0.75.
