Successful Research Strategies at Caltrans
The Division of Research and Innovation (DRI) is the research arm of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). DRI performs customer-focused transportation research for both internal and external customers. This paper will describe how DRI uses 3 different types of research mechanisms: ‘in-house’ research, partnering with academia, and partnerships with the private sector. This paper is intended for transportation managers and practitioners interested in learning how current transportation research moves forward to become future innovation.
