V2V Applications in the SAFESPOT European Project: The OEMs Experience
SAFESPOT is an Integrated research Project (IP), co-funded by the European Commission Information Society Technologies. The project objective is to understand how intelligent vehicles and intelligent roads can cooperate to improve road transport safety. This paper covers some aspects of the vehicle-based SAFESPOT cooperative applications, focusing specifically on the achievements and work in progress from the OEMs (CRF, VOLVO, PIAGGIO, RENAULT) point of view. Some of the limits found in standalone ADAS applications are also reported and comparisons made with respect to the vehicle to vehicle (V2V) and vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) communications approach.
