Methodology for Monitoring Highway Performance across Extensive Corridors sing Probe Vehicle GPS Data; with Application to Québec–Windsor Corridor

Presented is a methodology for efficient and effective monitoring of travel speeds throughout a roadway network based on global positioning system (GPS) data harvested from users of that roadway network. Described is the data architecture for the GPS data and the digital map database and the computational framework to generate time-of-day and day-of-week statistical measures for travel speeds throughout the roadway system. Results from an extensive application of the methodology to monitor the entire length of the Quebec City –Windsor, ON corridor are presented which validates the methodology.
