A study on travel time prediction during incident occurrence

The road traffic information of Internavi Premium Club includes a floating car-based information service which Honda started providing for the first time in the world as an automotive manufacturer. This service enables users to obtain more detailed and broader traffic information that can be provided by sharing floating car information between users. Internavi Premium Club has an original method for the travel time prediction. The more floating car data gathered, the more accurate the travel time prediction willbecome. The inbound traffic on Metropolitan Expressway (MEX) Route No.3 Shibuya Line between Yoga and Tanimachi was used as a case study for a proposed new method for travel time prediction during incident occurrence. Thepossibility of obtaining traffic flow from the travel time data of vehicle information and communication system (VICS) instead of using real-time traffic flow data, and travel time prediction using these data was explored. In future tasks, it is intended to study the correction method in the case where inflow rate at Yoga tollgate is different from one in ordinary. Furthermore, after solving this problem, it is also necessary to verify whether or not the method is applicable on other routes then MEX Route No.3 Shibuya line.
