Evaluation Method of Location Tracking Technology Using Wireless LAN AP for a Pedestrian LBS

The current location tracking systems are based on numerous technologies such as the global positioning system (GPS) satellites, mobile communication network, Wi-Fi, RFID, ultrasonic waves, IrDA, etc. Among these technologies, research on Wi-Fi based location tracking system is most actively underway with the prevalence of the cellular phones and of the wireless AP (Access Point) infrastructure in large public buildings such as the station buildings and airport buildings. This research introduces an evaluation of the location tracking system using a wireless LAN IEEE 802.11b infrastructure and a Wi-Fi device, and analyses the requirements of pedestrian location-based services in large public buildings.
