Study of How To Protect ETC System Security
ETC service on the expressways in Japan has been spread widely at a faster pace in recent years due to several promotion measures; lower price of ETC on-board unit, financial assistance for the unit purchase by the government, and introduction of a variety of discount services exclusive for ETC users. Since other infrastructure in other fields where ETC system can also be used are expected to be prepared, a higher level of ETC system security and operation is more required. This paper first shows the history, application, and scheme of ETC service in Japan, and then mentions how to deal with the issues concerning misuse under the current ETC system, with emphasis on its tighter security as well as eradication of its misuse.
