An Integration of Universal Design in Urban Planning and Design
This paper describes how it is important for architects to realize how to harmonize between space, connection path, building, environment and the user. This conformation would then enable all groups of users to conveniently and safely commute from one location to another or within each location. In the past decade, universal design has played an important role due to the fact that life expectancy is extended. Science and technology has been improved and developed. Human right movement has been accepted especially among handicaps. Thus elderly and handicap group participation in the society relatively increases in many countries worldwide. The study of universal design would assist different age or handicap groups are able to equally excess to and equally share similar facilities such as buildings, location, infrastructure, and transportation. This article represents an importance of the universal design related to environment, built environment and transportation passage which is a part of urban design. The study aims to clarify and guide a new trend in social design for architect to adapt with his/her work in urban design.
