Influence of Travel Mode Choice Behavior on the Elderly Time Allocation Pattern in Mountainous Regions Incorporating Intra-Household Interaction
In Japan, mountainous regions are characterized by poorer public transport systems (mainly buses) and higher car ownership. In these regions, most of the elderly usually rely on other household members to "send & pick-up" when going out. Such transportation-poor population will further increase in the future due to aging progress and depopulation, and the mobility of the elderly will probably be worsened due to the bus deregulation enforced in 2002. Therefore, to seek proper modal shares and provide satisfactory transport services in these regions, the authors attempt to analyze the influence of travel mode choice behavior on the elderly time allocation pattern, theoretically incorporating intra-household interaction based on a one-week activity dairy data.
