East West transport corridor connecting Asia with Europe

This paper is focusing on the transnational initiative East West Transport Corridor connecting Europe with Asia via the south Baltic Sea Area. This large EU-financed initiative aims to develop a strategy and concepts for a more effective, sustainable and intermodal corridor. Actions are taken to strengthen business development, reducing bottlenecks, increasing understanding of usage of ITS as well as modelling and simulations in transport development, and on direct infrastructure investments facilitating the transport flow. The paper describes the transport situation, the importance of co-modality for sustainable development and the corridor initiative and its ITS component.
