Caltrans Wins Green Technology Award

This article describes the first use in California and the nation of a cold foam process to rehabilitate a major highway. There are three major benefits to the process: by recycling existing asphalt concrete in place it saves million of tons of virgin aggregate and bitumen. It also lowers construction truck travel and emission levels, and it allows traffic to continue moving on all lanes except the one under renovation. The article describes the process used to achieve the cold foam material, and the vehicle, which consolidates three road-replacement machines into one, allowing traffic to flow through the construction zone.
