Identification of Hazard Location and Ranking of Measures to Improve Safety on Local Rural Roads

The project discussed in this report is a pilot project which defines procedures and methods for analysis of traffic safety characteristics of local two lane roads in rural areas. About 25% of the number of traffic accidents on two lane roads in rural areas occur on provincial roads. These accidents are responsible for about 30% of the fatalities from traffic accidents. This project utilizes a combination of a safety inspection process and analytical procedures, with respect to alignment design consistency models, to evaluate the safety of two lane local roads in rural areas.
