Crime in road freight transport

Crime in road freight transport is being discussed on a European level. The Swedish National Road Administration initiated the project in order to form a picture of the actual situation in Europe in general and Sweden in particular. Crimes against truck drivers, freight, as well as vehicles are analysed. The analysis shows that the security problem is growing and large values are lost. The situation is not yet severe. The police is not giving the area priority, although the existence of hi-jackings. In Sweden, the southern parts are the most exposed, concentrated to urban areas. The crimes may be prevented or made more difficult to carry out. To realize this, national collaboration and cross-border solutions are important prerequisites (A).
