Strategic diversions in east anglia using mobile vms
This paper looks at the use of mobile variable message signs (vms) in the improvement of journey time reliability, congestion and incident management of the area 6 road network, UK. An initial investigation of the area 6 was carried out to discover any limiting factors before a mobile vms specification was developed. The units procured are used by the operations team for strategic diversions for closures lasting longer than 3 hours, by diverting traffic away from the affected areas. A secondary application was as part of their programme of usage covering maintenance, campaigns and major events informing motorists of maintenance schemes taking place.
