First National Transport Information System in Italy
The National Research Council (CNR) of Italy is a public body that is entrusted with promoting and carrying out research in all of the scientific areas. The CNR activity generally includes: (1) direct involvement in research on specific disciplines through its own institutes; (2) financial and technical support to university research; (3) fostering of international scientific cooperation; and (4) development of five year research programs on specific sectors of great importance. The special Project on Transport Research (PFT) is part of the latter type of CNR initiatives. The PFT has been conceived for improving the efficiency of the Italian Transport System. This paper represents the fist concrete political initiative for acquiring information on all transport activities.
