Helping the police with their inquiries
Advanced Simtech works with UK police forces to reconstruct accidents using simulation software originally designed to help automotive companies improve car safety. An example is presented showing the use of the software to demonstrate that a passenger in a car was not the driver in an accident that killed his brother. The software used is called Madymo (Mathematical Dynamic Modelling) and is used to determine the dynamics of what happens to the occupants of the vehicle, often in crashes involving single vehicles with multiple occupants. The resulting analysis recreates the accident so that it correlates with physical evidence at the scene. Permutations of driver behaviour, passenger position, speed, braking, suspension and road condition are considered in experimental simulation runs.
