The report of the new Ugachi bridge pier and caisson constructed by pre-cast segmental method

The new Ugachi Bridge was planned and designed to recover from seismic disaster damage. The uppermost requirement for the construction was a short construction period to restore traffic as soon as possible. For this requirement a new construction method of the bridge pier and caisson was proposed, which was the Pre-cast (PCa) segmental method. In this method PCa blocks are joined by a loop joint method horizontally at first, and then these joined PCa members are assembled by a mortar joint method vertically. The PCa blocks are manufactured at the factory, and then transported to the site and joined. The PCa segmental method has many merits, such as shorter construction period, lower cost, and lower environmental influence.
