Towards a behavioral integration of land use and transportation modelling
The evolution of research in travel behavior over the past decade points towards greater behavioral realism, disaggregate analysis, and exploration of the linkages between travel behavior and the housing and labor market behavior of households and individuals. This paper examines the linkages between these choice dimensions, assesses the limitations of current modeling approaches to representing the interdependence among these choice dimensions, and lays out a research agenda for pursuing this line of behavioral research. A strategy is developed for modeling these choices using a household production framework to predict lifestyle choices over the life cycle in a way that incorporates uncertainty and imperfect market conditions.
