Colour co-ordinates
In Yorkshire, UK, the county's passenger transport executive, Metro, has introduced yellow buses for transporting children to and from school. Each single-deck vehicle has a dedicated driver, there is a register when children get on the bus, each child has an allocated seat and a seat belt, and there is a hotline for parents to call if their children are not going by bus on a particular day. The benefits of the service include reduced congestion, reduced truancy, improved independence for the children, improved social inclusion and improved road safety. Metro is working with the councils of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees and Leeds to provide yellow buses. The initiative follows the success of Staffordshire County Council, pioneers of the scheme in the UK, which has 30 yellow buses operating on 34 routes.
