BENDING AND COMPRESSIVE BEHAVIORS OF A NEW CEMENT COMPOSITE
This article describes the development and mechanical properties of a new cement composite, the CEMTEC multiscale. This composite is characterized by stress hardening in tension and a very high uniaxial tensile strength (more than 20 MPa). The authors describe the determination of the compressive and bending behaviors of the CEMTEC multiscale, as used in the frame of ribbed slabs. For the slab function, the average modulus of rupture is equal to 50 MPa and the characteristic modulus of rupture is equal to 42 MPa. For the rib function, the average modulus of rupture is equal to 58 MPa and the characteristic modulus of rupture is equal to 48 MPa. The material is also very ductile in tension. The authors conclude with a brief comparison of the CEMTEC multiscale and another cement composite, Ductal. CEMTEC multiscale has an average modulus of rupture that is two times greater than the value assigned to Ductal; in addition, no visible cracks are observed before the stress peak in CEMTEC multiscale, which is not the case for Ductal.
