AN APPROACH TO ACCELERATED AGING: ARRHENIUS AGING, CYCLICAL LOADING, AND FREEZE-THAW DISTRESS IN AN EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN

This paper presents an approach to accelerated aging as applied to a portland cement concrete (PCC) pavement incorporating coal fly ash (CFA) as a recycled material. An existing PCC CFA pavement was located to serve as a benchmark and laboratory samples were made of concrete of similar materials and proportions. Three accelerating aging processes were applied in various combinations to the laboratory samples and the results evaluated by an analysis of variance method to systematically explore the separate and combined interactions of both developmental and deleterious accelerated aging variables. The purpose of this paper is to explain and illustrate the approach taken.
