CO2 EMISSIONS IN THE LIGHT OF RAPID MOTORIZATION GROWTH IN DEVLEOPING COUNTRIES (SLOVENIA AS AN EXAMPLE)

In the Republic of Slovenia (the RS) during the last ten years the total number of road vehicles has grown by an annual average of nine per cent and the growth rate of first registered vehicles reached a maximum twelve per cent. The annual travelling distance and the percentage of vehicles travelling this distance has steadily increased. The steep growth in the import (and sale) of transport vehicles has contributed to the change in ages of road vehicle fleets. It has been possible to quantify the effect of motorization on CO2 emission during the next decade using statistical, reported and estimated data. This predicted trend shows that the emissions of CO2 in the RS will further increase and a very slow reduction may only be expected after 2008. For the covering abstract see ITRD E122175.
